I know, spam.

I called to activate my shiny new incarnation of the Victoria's Secret credit card (VIP this time, ooh, which I didn't want/need except that I was desperate for a wedding present for my friend) and I got offered some sort of security protection that costs 9.95 a month. I refuse, and I hear the flipping of pages. Uh oh, I think. Sure enough, no matter how many times or ways I said 'no', the Southern fried chick on the other end had an answer for it out of her manual. I was initially feeling sorry for her for being forced to work at such an obviously tedious and annoying job, that is until I finally gave in and it took the idiot 10 minutes to get my name and address down properly. I mean, she couldn't fricking spell "Victoria" and that's the name of the company she works for. (Ok, she probably actually works for some bank, but c'mon.) My mom worked at a place like this and she was fired for taking too long on her phone calls, and my mom is a very smart lady who types better than 80 words per minute. How did this chippie manage to land this job?
So, now I get to call them back and cancel the bullshit program I didn't want in the first place. Joy.
But, oddly, when I called a year ago to cancel my AOL account I had relatively few problems. Perhaps some people (or their bosses) are just too overzealous.

Bwahaha, and I just saw a commercial for that "Head On" stuff. Their brilliant advertising strategy is to repeat "Head On! Apply directly to your forehead!" three times in a row, and that's basically the whole thing. I love it.
ETA And I'm still reading through all the HP-ness and have just learned the term "small name fan". Awwww. That's so cute! I'm proud to be a SNF.
Well, this is turning into a long, rambling post, but how many people actually use socks, do ya think? I don't mean, like, icon journals or anything, or well-known pseuds, but actual separate identities (perhaps one fannish, one RL). I have one--
averi. I used it to get into fandom friends-only places back when I didn't post anything fandomish in this journal. But-- I don't think I was really hiding anything. Is it any kind of a stretch to believe that
averi and
averii are the same person? ;) But is it really so uncommon? Am I a freak, too?
